Bike Pensacola’s monthly “Slow Ride” series returns for 2018 on Saturday, February 17 with a ride through several of the city’s historic neighborhoods.

Participants will meet at First City Arts Center, located at 1060 North Guillemard Street in Pensacola’s Long Hollow neighborhood, before embarking on a roughly hour-long ride through the Long Hollow, Eastside, East Hill, and Old East Hill neighborhoods. Following the ride, there will be a party with food and fun, said organizer Christian Wagley.

The hosts and sponsors for February’s Slow Ride are First City Art Center and independent bookstore Open Books. Both will be open for tours and activities following the Slow Ride, including an art gallery and sidewalk book sale.

Because most cyclists are “self-taught,” Bike Pensacola before each Slow Ride offers information about bicycle laws, safety tips, and different bicycling skills that will help keep rides safe and enjoyable. The ride will be about one hour and ten minutes long, at a casual pace, Wagley said, with nobody “dropped” or left behind. Children ages 10 to 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and cyclists under age 16 must wear a helmet by law. Helmets are recommended for those older than 16 but are not required. The Pensacola Police Department will provide an escort for the slow ride.
