For two generations, Yamato Japanese Steakhouse has been a favorite of Warrington residents and service members from nearby Naval Air Station Pensacola and Corry Field, but that run comes to an end Thursday.

On Wednesday, the restaurant’s owners announced via Facebook that Yamato would close the following day.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Yamato’s will be closed for good,” the post read. “Our last meal service will be tomorrow for lunch. The restaurant staff would like to thank everyone for their patronage over the 40+ years. It has been a great ride since 1974 and we hope that the new operators will enjoy the restaurant space as much as we did.”

In its place, David’s Catfish House is set to open its first Pensacola location. The Alabama-based regional chain currently has outposts in Milton and Crestview.

Yamato was a pioneer in Pensacola’s culinary scene, becoming the area’s first sushi bar and hibachi restaurant when it opened at 131 North New Warrington Road more than four decades ago.
