Downtown Pensacola coffee lovers will soon have a new spot to get their fix when the nation’s largest coffee retailer opens its first downtown-area location later this month.

The new Starbucks store at 501 East Gregory Street is set to open its doors on June 23.

Founded in 1971 in Seattle, Wash., the coffee giant has grown to operate more than 23,000 stores worldwide, including more than a dozen stores in the greater Pensacola area. In addition to coffee, Starbucks also serves tea, smoothies, and other drinks, along with breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and other food.

The new store joins a growing downtown coffee scene which includes two Bodacious Brew stores and Fosko Coffee Barre, with new coffee shops planned for both Bobby Switzer’s One Palafox Place project and Quint Studer’s Southtowne development.

Joining the new Starbucks store in the new 4,960 sq. ft. building are sandwich shop Jimmy John’s, which is eyeing an early July opening, and Nothing Bundt Cakes, which is expected to open in mid-July.

Based in Texas, Nothing Bundt Cakes has grown to more than 200 bakeries nationwide. Each bakery offers its eponymous bundt cakes in a wide range of flavors and sizes, from “bundtinis” — bite size cakes — to larger cakes and even tiered cakes that serve as many as 30 people.

Founded in 1983, Illinois-based Jimmy John’s has enjoyed strong growth in recent years, with more than 2,600 stores now open nationwide, including four others in the Pensacola area.
