One doesn’t replace the other.

I guess best there will be a gas station on the corner of 17th

How about taking a poll of the East Hill residents and you’ll get your answer. Or are you too chicken?

I don’t care about the people who paid property taxes on those homes for years, screw their property rights, the homes must be saved. Who’s going to pay for it you ask, I don’t care won’t be me, but we must save them. #SaveTheOldShotgunHousesNobodyCaresAboutUntilTheyAreAboutToBeKnockedDown

Those live oaks are of much greater value than the non-descript “architecture” of those homes.

Turning an abandoned former convenience store into a well lit, tax and job producing industry is fantastic! The two 90 year homes currently used for storage have no historic or architectural value. As a former New Orleanian who is strong preservationist, I love my architectural history. I also know when calls for preservation are veiled attempts at anti-progress NIMBYism. Opposition to this seems to be the latter.

Would I rather a local company or a nice restaurant take this spot? Yes. But for nearly 5 years that building has remained derelict and empty, a comfortable spot for vagrants. Time to move ahead with something positive.
