The Florida Department of Transportation announced that the Gulf Breeze wayside park and boat launch facilities, located east and west of U.S. 98 in Gulf Breeze, and the recreational area on the west side of U.S. 98 in Pensacola will close Wednesday, March 1.
The park areas will be used for staging materials and equipment for construction of the new Pensacola Bay Bridge, according to FDOT officials. During bridge construction, these areas will be accessible only by emergency services personnel.
The wayside park and fishing pier, located on the east side of U.S. 98 in Pensacola, will remain open during bridge construction.
Work on the new bridge is scheduled to begin in April 2017, with completion currently slated for summer 2020. Plans for the new bridge include construction of improved and expanded wayside parks for both Gulf Breeze and Pensacola.
All activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather.
