Allegiant Air announced Tuesday that it would add a twice-weekly route connecting Destin/Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS) with McCarran International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas.
The new air service will begin on October 7, 2016. Officials estimate the new route will bring more than 17,000 additional visitors each year to Northwest Florida.
“We are very excited to announce our first route connecting Las Vegas with Florida,” said Jude Bricker, Allegiant’s chief operating officer. “This new route will give travelers in both the Panhandle of Florida and Las Vegas their only nonstop, ultra-low cost option to visit the Entertainment Capital of the World and Florida’s Emerald Coast.”
“We are very excited to have a direct connection to Las Vegas starting in October. As well, folks from Nevada can now fly direct to Destin-Fort Walton Beach. Destin beaches ranked # 1 on the ‘Best Florida Beaches’ list by US News & World Report,” said Tracy Stage, airports director for Okaloosa County Airports.
The Las Vegas service is the seventh new route announced by Allegiant since beginning service to VPS earlier this year, though none of the routes offer daily service.
Allegiant also announced a “Christmas in July” sweepstakes through which 12 winners will be awarded tickets for themselves and a guest on the inaugural flight. Travelers can enter the contest at facebook.com/allegiant.
