A new assisted living facility opened last week on Pensacola’s east side. Summer Vista, located at 3450 Wimbledon Drive, offers 89 apartment-style units, 22 of which are located in a specialized memory care wing.
The $16 million project, located on the former grounds of the Pensacola Raquet Club, created an estimated 400 jobs during construction in addition to between 50 and 60 permanent jobs. The building is expected to generate around $180,000 in ad valorem property taxes.
“We’ve taken a foreclosed property and redeveloped it,” said city councilman Larry B. Johnson, who is an investor in the project. “There is nothing like this on this side of town.”
The facility celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting event held last Thursday. Patrick Duplantis, managing director for the development team, credited Johnson for having the vision for the facility. “I met Larry Johnson four years ago,” Duplantis said, “and he said, ‘I’ve got this great little piece of property around the corner that I think would make a great assisted living facility.'”
Duplantis cited the facility’s neighborhood feel and closeness to the Montessori School of Pensacola, which is located across the street. Summer Vista hopes to develop programs and relationships between the senior residents and the school’s students.
In addition to studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, Summer Vista includes restaurant-style dining, spacious community areas, a fitness center, nature trail, and other amenities. The facility will be managed by Florida-based SRI Management.
