The downtown is delightful, but I go for the trees and the natural beauty of the place. I understand that many of the flowers that are on Fairhope Ave are grown there. I think it is wonderful that we are seeing flowers and plants on Palafox. I would like to see more. Thanks to Deborah Dunlap for giving Palafox the green lush balconies of her buildings.

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 20:15:38 +0000http://pulsegulfcoast.com/?p=4647#comment-126Dear Mr. Buchanan, Your magazine is top notch and a pleasure to read. Perhaps the town of new iberia, la. might make the honorable mention list? it is not quite as picturesque as some of the very nicely designed planned communities of recent vintage, but our town has a rich commercial and cultural heritage dating to its founding in 1778 astride the old spanish trail running from pensacola to corpus christi, texas and has a fairly decent by many people’s standards, main street retail area/residential area at present of roughly a mile. it is continually refurbshing 19th century buildings of both a commercial and retail and residential type and creating foliage and sculpture parks (see the planned george rodrigue blue dog park in the retail/downtown site of the relatively recently burned masonic lodge constructed 1890 and the planned enclosure of and renovation into a park/multi use space of “church alley” located near the blue dog park). Kudos to you for presenting such a very educational and aesthetically appealing magazine spread on the 5 cities noted above, all of which deserve the recognition given them by your fine magazine. Technically new iberia may by a stickler, not be considered a gulf coast town, as we are some 12 miles inland from vermilion bay which is a more proper part of the gulf of mexico when it after 12 miles reaches marsh island, but since marsh island is a part of iberia parish and our bayou teche feeds into the atchafalaya river which feeds into the gulf of mexico and iberia parish is more or less home to the thriving old vermilion bay beachfront community of cypremort point, louisiana we might merit inclusion in a gulf community category. sincerely, kevin caffery
