Culver’s, the popular Wisconsin-based restaurant chain known for its ButterBurgers and frozen custard, is coming to Pensacola, the company confirmed.

The new restaurant will be located at 4400 Bayou Boulevard on the site of a SunTrust Bank branch which was recently demolished. The chain’s franchisee is hoping to break ground in September, with an expected opening in early 2019, a company spokesperson said.

Culver’s signature ButterBurger, which the company says uses only fresh, never frozen, 100% Midwest beef, is so named because its buns are lightly buttered and toasted before serving. Its frozen custard, which comes in vanilla and chocolate along with dozens of toppings and mix-ins, is made fresh daily in each restaurant.

Founded in 1984, Culver’s has since expanded to more than 650 family-owned and operated restaurants in 24 states. The nearest locations to Pensacola are currently in Navarre and Destin.
