President Donald Trump’s planned rally in Pensacola next week will be held on Friday, December 8 at the Pensacola Bay Center, officials confirmed Friday.
Doors for the event will open at 4:00 p.m., with the rally getting underway at 7:00 p.m. A previously scheduled hockey game between the Pensacola Ice Flyers and the Knoxville Ice Bears has been postponed until Monday.
The Bay Center — which can accommodate about 10,000 people for such a rally — previously hosted two of Trump’s three rallies in Pensacola during last year’s presidential campaign.
Free tickets for the rally are available on donaldjtrump.com. No homemade signs, banners, professional cameras with a detachable lens, tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, back packs or large bags will be permitted into the venue.
The rally comes just days before Alabama voters go to the polls to elect a new senator on Tuesday, December 12. Because the Mobile, Ala. metropolitan area is in the same media market, a Pensacola rally could give Trump an opportunity to reach Alabama voters without actually visiting the state and specifically endorsing former judge Roy Moore, the controversial Republican nominee.
Despite Alabama’s usual status as a Republican stronghold, the race has become a tossup after numerous women came forward to accuse Moore of sexual misconduct. Trump has tacitly supported Moore despite those allegations, saying that Democratic nominee Doug Jones “would be a disaster.”
Moore holds a five-point lead over Jones, with 5% of voters still undecided, according to a JMC Analytics poll released Wednesday. The poll has a margin of error of 3.8%.
