Significant changes are coming to Pensacola Beach next month as Escambia County officials try to better manage the flow of traffic on the busy barrier island.
Beginning in May, the way beachgoers will access the popular Casino Beach parking lot will change, with the Via de Luna entrance/exit becoming the parking lot’s only entrance, and the Fort Pickens Road entrance/exit becoming its only exit. The changes will cause the parking lot to function in a “circular configuration,” in order to improve traffic movement, officials said.
A new traffic signal will also be installed along Via De Luna at the entrance to the Casino Beach parking lot, providing a new westbound left turn into the lot. The new traffic signal will include a pedestrian push button signal. The new traffic signal and push button signal will be coordinated with the existing traffic signal at the intersection of Via De Luna Drive and Fort Pickens Road.
County officials say they hope to have the changes in place by mid-May, but the construction schedule depends on weather and other factors.
