The votes have been counted, the movies selected, and Pensacola’s Saenger Theatre is set to resume its popular Summer Classic Movie Series on Saturday, July 16.

The ten-week series will see the Saenger screen one classic film each Saturday evening at 7:00 p.m. through September 17.

This year’s series features some of Hollywood’s most legendary actors — including Lauren Bacall, Humphrey Bogart, Doris Day, Clark Gable, Cary Grant, James Stewart and Elizabeth Taylor — as well as the work of groundbreaking directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, John Huston, and Orson Welles. The ten films featured won a total of 35 Oscar awards and include two films — “Citizen Kane” and “The Maltese Falcon” — which are celebrating their 75th anniversaries in 2016.

The Saenger Theatre, located at 118 South Palafox Street, opened in 1925 and continued to operate as a cinema until 1975. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the theatre is now owned and operated by the City of Pensacola as a performance venue.

The schedule for this year’s series is as follows:

  • 7/16/2016 — “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”
  • 7/23/2016 — “The Man Who Knew Too Much”
  • 7/30/2016 — “Key Largo”
