Despite a steep fundraising disadvantage, Mike Hill leads Doug Broxson in the race to become Florida’s next state senator, according to a new poll.

Florida Politics reports that a new internal poll conducted by Data Targeting shows Hill with an 18-point lead over Broxson, with some 30 percent of likely Republican primary voters undecided.

The two state representatives are vying to succeed State Sen. Greg Evers, who is running for Congress. The new Senate District 1, redrawn as the result of a court challenge, includes all of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties as well as a small chunk of southern Okaloosa County.

Broxson has a nearly 2-to-1 fundraising advantage over Hill, with around $283,000 in overall contributions to Hill’s $160,000, which includes a $50,000 loan from Hill to his campaign. Broxson has received more than $50,000 from political action committees and trade associations, particularly from the healthcare, banking, and agricultural sectors.

The poll surveyed 303 likely Republican primary voters between July 22 and July 24, according to the report, with a margin of error of 5.7 percent.
