Pensacola-based Baptist Health Care broke ground Tuesday on a planned $6 million medical park near Pensacola International Airport.

Baptist Medical Park – Airport will be Baptist’s third medical park and will be located near the airport’s entrance at 5100 North 12th Avenue.

The medical park will be a two-story complex featuring more than 24,000 square feet of services, including Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Baptist Heart & Vascular Institute, as well as Baptist Medical Group primary and specialty physicians. The facility will also offer clinical laboratory and imaging services.

A key service offering at the medical park will be an urgent care clinic for minor illnesses and injuries. With connectivity to the Andrews Institute, patients with orthopaedic injuries will have on-site access for a more seamless transition to specialty care when necessary.

“We are very excited about improving access to Baptist’s services in our community,” said Mark Faulkner, President and CEO, Baptist Health Care. “This facility will be convenient to neighborhoods and businesses on the east side of town, as well as visitors traveling to our area utilizing our airport and surrounding hotels. Baptist continues to grow to better serve the needs of Northwest Florida.”

“One of the things we really haven’t zeroed in on in Pensacola is medical tourism,” said Pensacola mayor Ashton Hayward. “Last month at his State of the State speech, Governor Scott recognized Pensacola for the growth we are seeing. For Baptist to be one of our largest non-governmental employers and have the willingness to continue investing in our area is huge.”

Several local companies are working with BHC on the project, including George Koper Associates, architect; Catalyst CRE, developer; and Williams Brown, contractor.  Currently, BHC operates three hospitals, two medical parks, Andrews Institute for Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine, Lakeview Center, Baptist Medical Group and Baptist Heart & Vascular Institute.

Baptist Health Care is a community-owned, not-for-profit health care organization based in Pensacola. In addition to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Baptist operates Gulf Breeze Hospital, Jay Hospital, Lakeview Center, the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine, and medical parks in North Pensacola and Navarre.

The Airport medical park is projected to be open by early 2017.
