The Pensacola City Council is set to meet next week to select its council president and vice president for the next year.

The city charter stipulates that the council meet on the fourth Tuesday of November each year to elect the two positions. The council president sets the council’s monthly agenda, serves as the presiding officer at city council meetings, and earns an annual salary of $21,000 — about $7,000 more than other council members.

Five council members have been nominated to serve as the council’s next president, including current council president Andy Terhaar and past presidents P.C. Wu and Jewel Cannada-Wynn. Current vice president Larry B. Johnson and Councilman Charles Bare have also been nominated.

Terhaar was the only candidate to be nominated by more than one council member, receiving nods from Johnson as well as Councilman Brian Spencer, who praised Terhaar’s “experience combined with calm demeanor and guidance.”

Wu, Cannada-Wynn, and Johnson have also been nominated for vice president, along with council members Brian Spencer and Gerald Wingate.
