Downtown Pensacola is getting into the holiday spirit.

For the past several weeks, crews have been hanging lights above downtown, decorating streetlights with holiday wreaths and spanning garland across the street along Palafox. The lights will officially be switched on at the end of the annual Elf Parade on Friday after Thanksgiving.

The Pelican Drop has been relocated to Palafox and Garden streets, four blocks north from its location in past years at the intersection of Palafox and Government streets. The streets around the intersection will be closed off to allow larger crowds than previous years to gather and enjoy the festivities. Officials expect more than 50,000 people to attend the event.
